The aims of the conference are to ensure that professionals working with service personnel returning to civilian life are equipped to deal with a range of pressures that they will encounter. The conference will also signpost appropriate services and organisations available within the region who you can call upon for advice and support.
The speakers possess a wealth of experience and knowledge and include:
Marie Brown Area Manager for Foyle Women's Aid in Northern Ireland. Marie works with various agencies within Northern Ireland to ensure an increased awareness of domestic violence and its impact upon families. Marie is also able to provide a unique perspective of the pressures felt by service personnel while on active service within her community over the last 30 years.
Lesley Brown is the Director of Fundraising and Development for NORCARE. The Royal British Legion and NORCARE are working in partnership in the setting up of the new NORCARE Veterans Centre in Newcastle. This is a dual purpose centre providing accommodation and a day centre facility. This will be the first of its kind outside London.
Tony Wright the Director of About Turn CIC which aims to improve the lives of ex-service personnel and their families. Tony is also a Co-ordinator for the Forces for Good Project offering advice and guidance to ex-servicemen and women who are experiencing difficulties in adjusting to civilian life. Issues covered will be housing issues, homelessness, substance misuse, alcohol problems, PTSD, mental health etc.
